Awake fibreoptic intubation for airway burns.
A young adult was admitted to a casualty department with severe burns sustained in a motor vehicle fire. His airway was initially patient, but in grave danger of obstruction due to inhalational injury. Conventional methods of airway management were unable to guarantee a patent airway and a novel approach is described.

Providing anesthetic care to the patient with a difficult airway keenly interests anesthesiologists and is a situation that often provokes much anxiety and trepidation. However, dealing effectively and safely with these patients is a skill that all anesthesiologists should be familiar with and are expected to perform with competency. متن کاملCyst hydatid case ruptured after awake intubation causing difficult airway
Encountered throughout the history, the cyst hydatid is a parasitary disease caused by Echinococcus Granulosus. Its prevalence in Turkey is presumed to be around 50 per 100 thousand (1). Cyst hydatid settles in the liver almost at a rate of 60% and about 30% in the lungs. The cysts settling in the lungs are generally solitary and asymptomatic (2). However, it provides findings in some patients ...
متن کاملAwake Glidescope® intubation in a patient with a huge and fixed supraglottic mass -A case report-
Intubating patients with a huge, fixed supraglottic mass causing an obstruction of the glottis is difficult to most anesthesiologists. We attempted awake fiberoptic orotracheal intubation assisted by Glidescope® Videolaryngoscope (GVL) following topical anesthesia with 4% lidocaine spray and remifentanil infusion. The glottis could not be identified by the GVL view. However, by entering toward ...
